CRYSTAL FIBRE A/S AWARDS

January 2005: Photonics Circle of Excellence 2004

For the third year in a row, Crystal Fibre is honered with the Photonics Circle of Excellence Award - this year for the DC-170-40-Yb active double clad fiber. It is anticipated that the DC-170-40-Yb will lead to improved fiber lasers and fiber amplifiers with higher threshold to nonlinearities compared to devices built with standard double clad fibers.
Typical applications are free space communication, material processing such as cutting, welding and drilling, laser displays as well as master oscillator power amplification, and it is anticipated that single mode fiber lasers with over 1 kW CW power can be built. It is also anticipated that this will lead to lasers with higher wall-plug efficiency compared to solid state lasers.

September 2004: Phast Innovation Award 2004

Crystal Fibres presentation on Air-clad photonic crystal fibers for high-power single-mode lasers have been granted the PhAST Innovation Award at this years PhAST conference in San Francisco, California, recognizing Crystal Fibres air-clad platform as this years most important photonic technology. The presentation has been judged on the following categories:

- Category Impact
- Functionality
- Life Expectancy Before it’s Replaced with Something Bigger/Better
- Impact on the Optics industry
- Innovation
- Patents/Trademarks

January 2004: Photonics Circle of Excellence 2003

For the second year in a row, Crystal Fibre is honored with the Photonics Circle of Excellence Award - this time for our world leading AIR-12-1060 airguiding fiber, designed to transmit around the Nd:YAG wavelength of 1060 nm. The fiber guides more than 98% of the light in air, and has a loss of less than 40 dB/km. The 12 µm core can handle power levels several orders of magnitude higher than conventional solid fibers, making the fiber ideal for high power delivery. Furthermore, the fiber is virtually bending insensitive, and easily bendable to a 1 cm radius without additional loss. Finally, the hollow core paves the way for a range of new applications as the fiber can be filled with liquids, gasses or particles.
The fiber is available in lengths up to several hundred meters.
